As part of the Royal Garrison Artillery, Bombardier Hudson Copeland Roberts 50044, who joined-up in November 1914, was posted to the Bilberry Hill Gun Proof Range, Lickey, from the Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich in 1918.
He, along with civilians, were responsible for proofing the gun barrels refurbished at the nearby Austin Motor Company at Longbridge, which had been turned over to the war effort. This was an essential part of the war to ensured the returned Howitzer was safe to fire.
The following year he was discharged and married local lass, Ellen Troth, 19th February 1919 at the Holy Trinity church, Lickey.
